Transformers 2 Is Coming Soon

The internet is alive with sequel news this afternoon. Top of the heap is Transformers, which even though it hasn’t yet been released is riding a wave of tremendous buzz and seems almost assured to make hundreds of millions of dollars when it opens in the middle of next week. It looks like Paramount isn’t waiting around to make sure it’s a hit, according to a story picked up from Entertainment Tonight, they’ve already greenlit Transformers 2.

It’s too early to have any idea what the movie will be about or whether any of the current cast and crew will be involved in it, but having seen the movie last night I can assure you that it lends itself pretty easily to a long and incredibly fun series of giant freakin robot films. More importantly, it’s good enough that it’s bound to leave audiences wanting more of it. Unless the impossible happens and the movie somehow underperforms, sequels are a no brainer. Good move on Paramount’s part. Now they need to lock up Michael Bay and Shia LaBeouf.

Transformers 2 Will Be Shot in IMAX

Holy crap. Parts of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen are being shot in IMAX, meaning you'll get to see literally five-story Transformers getting smashed, exploded and all of the usual Michael Bay craziness in the only screen size truly worthy of Michael Bay. Like The Dark Knight, non-IMAX scenes will be letterboxed, and it'll blow back up to full screen size for IMAX sequences. Man, if there was ever a movie that needed to be in IMAX, this is it.

LOS ANGELES, CA, September 30, 2008 – IMAX Corporation (NASDAQ: IMAX; TSX: IMX), DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures today announced that director Michael Bay will shoot key sequences of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with IMAX® cameras. Bay will integrate the IMAX footage with state of the art CGI to create an unprecedented look and feel for the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s box office hit, Transformers. As previously announced, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be released to IMAX® theatres simultaneously with the movie’s wide release on June 26, 2009.

The movie sequences shot in traditional 35mm will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The IMAX DMR scenes will appear in the traditional “letterbox” shape, while scenes shot with IMAX’s cameras will expand vertically to fill the entire IMAX screen.

Transformers 2 Delayed

Well it appears that Michael Bay’s Transformers 2 may be pushed back from the reported June 26, 2009 release date. The Hollywood Reporter is not reporting that the release date for Transformers 2 has been downgraded to “as-yet-unslotted”. Understandably, fans are in a white-knuckled panic over fears the the Transformers sequel may be pushed back into 2010

Well it appears that Michael Bay’s Transformers 2 may be pushed back from the reported June 26, 2009 release date. Michael Bay has yet to officially respond to the Hollywood Reporter piece, but Bay has been know to candidly broadcast his thoughts, via his official site. Speculation regarding the effect of the Writer’s Strike on the production of Transformers 2 has obviously increased.

As part of the promotion for the new Transformers DVD releases, Walmart has a new flash section on their site that is promising to release new, official, behind the scenes footage from Transformers 2. A new video will be added each week.”Have fun, keep it safe”. The first video is set at the Bethlehem Steel works and is titled “On the set: Day 1″. This is our first look at the motorbikes and their crazy color schemes - bright pink, purple and blue - we see them speeding past us as an Audi R8 skids out of the way. We also see a large group of soldiers with an assortment of weapons, some carrying Mini guns and of course, there is another big explosion!

Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Ratchet and Ironhide at White Sands

Anonymous source that provided a set report has returned with the promised pictures of Bumblebee, Ratchet, Optimus Prime and Ironhide. None of the new autobots were on show however.
The set report:
- The core cast is at the location, Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson
- Today they shot a fight scene at a desert set similar to one from the first movie.
- Extras on set comprised of various needs including a “Strike Force” and Jordanian soldiers.
- Heard rumor that Julie White and Kevin Dunn (Sam’s parents) where also on the White Sands set.
- Additionally heard that TF2 may film in Ruidoso which is about 30 minutes from Alamogordo. Ruidoso is in the mountains surrounded by a dense forest.

Early Transformers 2 Secrets Revealed

Want to find out more about the Transformers 2 scene Michael Bay is shooting at Bethlehem Steel? Or how about the shoot scheduled at the Smithsonian? We have all the details. As always, if you don’t want anything spoiled, skip it! And while I’m 95% sure this information is legit, there is always the chance that this could be leaked misinformation from Bay (although it doesn’t seem like it). But for your safety, treat everything below as rumor.
The opening of Transformers 2 takes place at a Steel Factory in Shanghai, China (filmed in Bethlehem, PA), where the Autobots, the British SAS (Matthew Marsden as “Graham” and Andrew Howard) and Captain Lennox’s Military team (Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson) are chasing after a Decepticon Audi RS8. Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are not featured in the opening chase sequence.
The autobots include a pair of robots called The Twins, which join together to form an Ice Cream Truck (pictured right). An ice cream truck is a great disguise for a transformer as no one would suspect. I’m guessing that one of the twins is white and the other is pink (but this is just a guess). This appears the be the coolest new addition to the autobot line-up. There’s one sequence where the Twins are speeding down a Shanghai street and split apart around a group of chinese children in the street, which should be pretty cool looking. At another point the truck crashes and the Twins split in two and have a brotherly fight. Yes, it looks like the comic tone of the original film is back.
Also involved in the chase is a hot pink ninja style motorcycle with black highlights which turns into Arcee (toy pictured below), a go-cart named Wheels / Wheelbot and Stinger (possibly a Porsche). Lennox’s team meets up with Ironhide on a Shanghai Street. I’m not sure exactly what happens but it appears that the Deception R8 escapes. All in all it seems like a pretty bad ass chase sequence.

The New Megatron?

This image has been swirling round the web, and the word is that it’s the new look of Megatron in Transformers 2.
I don’t think this has been verified to date - but we will be on the look out for confirmation. I cant say I am a fan of the “alien” looking tank. I would have much preferred a standard earth tank of some sort, but I’m glad Megatron has a gun built into him, that is for certain.
I have low expectations for Transformers 2, the news coming down the pipe has been concerning, and I am preparing to be let down. On the plus side - Devastator may be in the film - and I wanted him to show up more than anybody.

Megan Fox Reveals ‘Transformers 2’ Script Re-Writes, Make-Out Scenes

When Michael Bay got behind the camera for his most recent film, he chronicled a lot more than just automobiles transforming into robots from outer space. Millions of fans also watched then 21-year-old Megan Fox transform from an obscure actress best remembered for a Lindsay Lohan movie into one of the most desired hotties on the planet. Now, the “Transformers” star is back on the set with Michael Bay — and true to the director’s favorite word, she says he’s making an awesome sequel.
“As big as the first movie was, this is 10 times as big, 10 times as many set pieces, explosions, and acrobatic stunts,” she told us about “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. “Shia and I make out a little bit; I don’t know if anyone wants to see that.”
Something tells us that Shia LeBeouf wants to see it.
Regardless, Megan insisted that the blossoming romance between Sam and Mikaela is only one of the many plotlines Bay will be juggling for the June 2009 flick. But according to the actress, some last-minute scrambling has been taking place to make sure their romance can hold its own among all those Autobot vs. Decepticon showdowns.
“You know, we’ve been having script meetings, and we’ve been reworking the script, because they wrote it fast because of the writer’s strike,” she explained. “And, we’ve just been going through and trying to do some character stuff for Shia and myself in the middle of this crazy world that they’re in.”
“I can tell you that we’re on locations in some really exotic places,” she added. “It’s just going to be a badass movie. It’s just going to be a popcorn-visual-spectacle, summer film.”
As for Michael Bay’s main directorial input to his lead actress, Megan had this to say: “His main note to me is just to look hot; so I try my best.”

Megatron A Tank In Transformers 2

As great as Transformers was (everyone knows how much I dug the first film… flaws and all), one of the things that most people seem to universally agree on is how misused Megatron was. No, I’m not talking about his design (which I thought was really good actually), but how little he was used, how little we saw him fight, how little we saw him interact with Starscream and how unceremoniously he was killed.
Now, while most of us all assumed that Megatron would be back for Transformers 2, we haven’t really heard anything official yet about it (since he know the main villain will be “The Fallen”). But now our friends over at CHUD are giving us some word on Megatron:

OK, I don’t think there’s a soul out there who will be surprised when Megatron returns in Transformers 2*. If the current incarnation of the script follows the beats of a previous incarnation (which did not feature The Fallen), Megatron may be getting brought back by the Autobots, who need him to conquer the new menace. But I’ve learned that this time he won’t be that weird alien jet. This time he’s a tank.

This seems to go along with previous stuff we’ve heard about the possibility of Autobots and Decepticons needing to team up to fight another force. I’m not huge on that notion myself… but I must admit it would be pretty cool to see Optimus Prime and Megatron fighting side by side… whoever they team up against is basically screwed.

Brining him back as a tank isn’t a bad idea, and it will please a lot of people who didn’t like the space jet look for him last time… plus it would give them an excuse to put a canon on his arm… which will make even more people happy.
